Gold Medal Dado Set by Tenryu

Made with the same quality and precision as the award-winning Gold Medal Combination saw blades, the Tenryu Gold Medal Dado Set will give you clean, crisp dados and grooves. With its 40 tooth zero degree rake outside cutters, it's great for fine veneers and thin laminates - even Melamine! And the aggressive-rake inside chippers give you amazingly flat bottom cuts.

Due to their aggressive hook angles, most dado sets can't safely be used on radial arm saws. The teeth tend to either lift the material or try to run out into it and bind up. If you've ever tried a positive hook blade on a radial arm, you know what I'm talking about. I couldn't tell you how many times I tripped a breaker using my RAS years ago, before there were blades made (or before I knew about them, anyway) for radial arms. And when the blade tries to walk across the top of the board, that can't be doing the saw any favors!

Unlike all those other dado sets, the Tenyru Gold Medal Dado CAN be used on a radial arm. And, if the arbor shaft is long enough, on a sliding miter as well. Think how much easier it would be grooving boards for bookshelves if you could do it on a RAS or slide miter saw!

Now, a good dado set is an investment and you want to keep it in tip-top shape so you need a good way to protect it when you're not using it. With that in mind, Tenryu sets come complete with the fine wooden case you see in the picture here.

And speaking of investment, this is what Woodworkers Journal Magazine had to say about the Gold Medal Dado:

...."Its C4 carbide teeth are thicker and taller than the Forrest blade, so you may just get a few more trips into the sharpening service with this blade before it needs a fresh set of teeth"...

At this time, the Tenryu dado set only comes in one size: 8" with a 5/8" arbor, which is ideal for 8" or 10" saws. If you need something larger, check out SystiMatic Dado Sets.

TENRYU GM25540 Gold Medal Combination Table Saw Blade

If you’re anything like me, you like simplicity. You’d like to have one tool that will do a multitude of jobs – and do them all well. Who wants to be changing blades on a table saw just to go from cutting fine-veneered plywood to crosscutting or ripping solid wood for stiles when you’re building a cabinet?
The problem is, most all-purpose or general purpose blades don’t do ANY of those jobs particularly well – they’re compromises at best. A few, however, do test out well enough to satisfy all but the most demanding of woodworkers, people who are willing to have $300-400 in blades sitting around and will take the time to change them frequently.
In their May 2008 issue, Wood Magazine compared several general purpose, combination saw blades and the Tenryu Gold Medal (GM25540) was chosen as the best in its class. Yes, it even beat out the Forrest Woodworker II! Since the Forrest WW is probably the most recognized blade on the market, that’s quite a feat. It also tells you something about the quality and precision of the Gold Medal.

Now, also consider that Forrest has their WW II on sale for $114.30 and you can buy the Gold Medal for only $94.50 at regular price from Just Saw Blades. Which one would YOU buy?

By the way, in a past issue, February 200, Wood Magazine rated this combination table saw blade as “the quietest cutting blade in our test….” and that was up against some pretty well-known and highly regarded competition. The reason it’s the quietest? Simple. It creates the least vibration! With laser-cut expansion slots filled with resin bond and a run-out of less than .002″, it’s no wonder the Gold Medal Series combination blades will give you clean, precise and quiet cuts. Ripping, crosscutting or working with plywood and wood composites – even double-sided laminates – this blade will do it better than about any other. And with the tough C4 carbide honed to a mirror-finish, it’ll do it longer, too!

The Gold Medal Series includes the 10″ 40 tooth reviewed here and 12″ and 14″ models, both with 60 teeth. You can order either of them easily and securely online- and expect great service from Just Saw Blades.

NEWS FLASH! The Tenryu Gold Medal 10" General Purpose saw blade is now available in a full 1/8" kerf! And Just Saw Blades has it. Same blade, same price, just a more standard .126" kerf.

Tenryu Plastic Cutter Series Saw Blades

The conventional thinking on carbide plastic cutting saw blades, meaning what most manufacturers think, is that they should have Triple Chip Grind teeth. And yes, that does work to minimize chipping and burring. And if you use the right tooth count for the TYPE of plastic you're cutting you won't get too much melting.

Well, as we all know, "conventional thinking" doesn't exactly lead to progress, does it? So along came the TENRYU engineers, with their UN-conventional, innovative thinking. They wanted to develop a plastic cutting blade that would take the quality of your cut to the next level and using the same old technology wasn't going to do it.

Through trial and error and lots of testing, TENRYU came up with the Plastic Cutter (formerly called Plasti-Cut) Series and for the highly discriminating professional, the Pro Series for Plastic.

And guess what? They're not triple chip. These blades have what's called Alternating Top Bevel Alternating Face carbide tips. What this means is, one side edge of each tooth is planing the cut smooth after the tops of the teeth have done their job.

For a visual of these design differences see Tooth Geometry Explained

One of the things I like about selling TENRYU blades is their US warehouse is never out of stock, where my other supplier, SystiMatic, is notorious for back ordering. Now when someone orders a SystiMatic blade that's out of stock, I can usually get them to try a TENRYU. And there hasn't been a complaint yet.

The following is the report I got back from just such a satisfied customer, who had been buying SystiMatic blades and had always been happy with them:

"The Tenryu blades are great blades. I prefer them over the SystiMatic. With the acrylic sheets we cut, although the SystiMatic blades do the job, they still throw larger chips back and not as clean an edge as the Tenryu.

"Yesterday I cut a very small dimension with a close tolerance in 1/8" acrylic; the Tenryu blade worked excellent. Clean edge and the material traveled through smoothly. It's a very good blade."

Keep in mind here, I'm not knocking SystiMatic blades - they're VERY high quality and I've sold thousands of them to businesses across the country and even quite a few outside the US. Not to mention thousands more to choosy weekend warriors.

The point is, with TENRYU technology, you can get clean, smooth cuts in virtually ANY type of plastic. Due to their tight tolerances, chipping in hard, brittle plastics is reduced.

And the "no-melt" grind pattern and super-fine honing help reduce heat build-up which causes melting in softer, lower melting-point plastics. No more worrying about too few or too many teeth!

Pro Series for Plastics

TENRYU'S Pro Series for Plastics has all the features and advantages of the Plastic Cutter PLUS:

  • Laser cut, press-tempered, individually tensioned and chrome plated bodies (less friction)

  • High-grade, fine-grain C4 carbide wear resistant tips to stay sharp longer

  • Resin bond-filled laser-cut expansion slots for less noise and less vibration, meaning truer cuts and even less chipping

For specifications and prices on both series or to order go to Plastic Cutting Saw Blades by TENRYU. If you've got plastic you need to cut with a table saw, miter saw or radial arm, this is the blade you want.
